The poem is about showing determination and grit when it comes to achieving something important.

The poet exhorts the reader to give up time, peace and sleep to work towards achieving the most important thing in his life. Everything else should take second place. Lose one’s fear of God or another man, come what may, if he shows the courage, faith and confidence, then nothing will stop him from getting the thing he wants.
