When the body moves from one position to another the actual path of the body traversed is called distance 
Distance is a scalar quantity.The velocity of a body is defined as the rate of displacement with respect to time. 
It is a vector quantity.The unit of velocity is meter per second. (ms/¹).

The rate of change of displacement of a body is called velocity.

length of a path between two points is called distance between those two points.
