Answer:

The age of Shriya = y - 5. According to the question, five years ago Arjun's age was 3 times the age of Shriya. This gives us the second relation and we obtain equation (2). Hence, the present age of Arjun is 20 years and the present age of Shriya is 10 years.

Given :

Arjun is twice as old as Shriya. Five years ago his age was three times Shriya’s age.

To Find :

Their Present ages.

Solution :

In the question it is given that Arjun age is twice than of Shriya’s age. So, we will let age of Shriya’s be x and Arjun's age be 2x. 5 Years ago his age was Three times Than Shriya’s Age. Then, Shriya’s Age will be (x - 5) and Arjun's age will be (2x - 5) Firstly We find the value of x and put the value in Ages.

  • Let Shriya’s age be x

  • Arjun's age be x + 2

  • Shriya’s age = x - 5

  • Arjun's age = 2x - 5

5 Years ago his age was Three times Than Shriya’s Age.

According to Question :

➣ 2x - 5 = 3 (x - 5)

➣ 2x - 5 = 3x - 15

➣ 2x - 5 + 15 = 3x

➣ 2x + 10 = 3x

➣ 3x = 2x + 10

➣ 3x - 2x = 10

x = 10

Now, Present Ages

Shriya’s Age = 10 years

Arjun's age = 10 × 2 = 20 years.
