Answer:

The refractive index arranged in descending order is Air, Water and glass.

Explanation:

Refractive index is bending of light ray when passing from one medium to other . Its equal to the velocity of light (c) of a given wavelength in free space divided by its velocity (v) in a medium, or n = c/v.

Refractive index of Air is 1

Refractive index of Water is 1.33

Refractive index of glass is 1.52

Answer:

The descending order of refractive index is glass, water and air.

Solution:

The refractive index is defined as the bending of light waves when it is passed through different kind of mediums. Based on the medium used, the refractive index will be varying. It can be calculated by dividing the velocity of light in free space with velocity of the light in a particular medium. The refractive index is denoted as n and it can be written mathematically as

\bold{n=\frac{c}{v}}

So, the refractive index of a medium is inversely proportional to the velocity of the light in that medium. In this case, the light travels faster in air, then in water and then in glass. So the refractive index is maximum for glass which is 1.53 followed by water which is 1.33 and atlast air which is 1. So the descending order of refractive index is glass, water and air.
