Decreasing order of size of the particles- suspension > colloid > true solution.

  • A true solution is made of solute and solvent which are homogenous in nature. The solution is clearly transparent.
  • Solute particles size of a true solution is less than 1nm i.e. very small in size.
  • Due to its very small size, true solution particles are invisible.
  • A colloidal solution is a heterogeneous mixture of solute and solvent but it seems to be homogenous and translucent
  • Its particle size varies between 1nm to 100nm.
  • With the help of a microscope, these particles can be seen.
  • A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture of solute and solvent.
  • The particle size of suspension is more than 100nm which is the largest among the true solution and colloids.
  • These can be seen by the naked eye, due to their large size and their solution is opaque.
