Arteries are deep seated to prevent them from damage. even a minor damage in arteries  may result in  the loss of lots of blood due to high pressure of blood in arteries. arteries carry oxygen rich blood and loss of oxygenated blood can prove detrimental to our body. while veins are located superficially as the pressure inside them is very low and it contains de-oxygenated blood.

Arteries are blood vessels which carry oxygenated to all the parts of the body away from heart whereas vein carry de-oxygenated blood from all the organs and take it towards heart.

Both vary in terms of structure and composition. Arteries are well settled deep because are sensitive and if any damage occurs to them, a lot of blood loss can happen whereas veins lie near the skin because they have low pressure and the muscle contraction and relaxation controls the blood flow in veins.

But not all arteries in the body lies deep, someone of them lie close the skin such as carotid artery which lies near to the skin and are many more.
