Answer:-

Unfortunately, most of the air we breathe is not pure. It contains harmful substances called pollutants which cause air pollution. Air pollution is one of the major problems of the world. Air pollution can be reduced by planting more trees. Trees cleanse the air of carbon dioxide by absorbing it for the process of photosynthesis. Trees also bring rain which helps in cleansing the atmosphere. Factories and power stations are provided with tall chimneys which carry smoke and waste gases high up into the air. In some industries, to settle down pollutants, wastes are sprayed with jets of water in scrubbers, before they reach the chimneys. In a few modern industries, electric current is used to check smoke and dust particles. Nowadays, cars are fitted with a special device called a catalytic converter. The catalytic converter converts hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide into harmless water vapour and carbon dioxide. New car engines are designed to use lead-free or unleaded petrol which is less harmful than the leaded one.

Answer:

Air pollution is caused by the presence of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological materials in the air which harms humans and other living organisms. It can also damage the natural environment.

Air pollution causes depletion of ozone in the stratosphere which endangers human health as well as the Earth’s ecosystems. Air pollutants can be in the form of solid particles, liquid droplets, or gases. They could be natural or man-made.

Pollutants can be classified as either primary or secondary. Substances which are directly emitted due to certain processes like ash from a volcanic eruption, or carbon monoxide gas from a motor vehicle exhaust or sulfur dioxide released from factories- are primarypollutants.

Secondary pollutants are not emitted directly. They form in the air when primary pollutants react or interact. One example is ground level ozone. There are also pollutants that are both primary and secondary: that is, they are both emitted directly and formed from other primary pollutants. About 4 percent of deaths in the United States is the result of air pollution, says a study. Air pollution can cause skin and eye allergies, cancer, lung disease, etc.
