article on “invention of synthetic fibre" is a bless or curse
Answers
The invention of synthetic fibres is a blessing. They are more durable and readily pick up different dyes. Many of them are consumer friendly and are stretchable, waterproof and stain resistant. Natural fibres are sensitive to sunlight, moisture and oils from human skin and wear away. While synthetic blends are more durable and are not a good food source for fabric damaging insects.
Synthetic fibres are more water resistant and stain resistant. They are designed to stretch in specific ways, so they are more comfortable to wear. So though synthetic fibre production involves some carbon emissions, the environmental impact of many fibres is much lower.
There are some disadvantages of using synthetic fibres which are related to their low melting temperature. They are prone to damage by heat and melt relatively easily. They get damaged by hot washing. More electrostatic charge is generated by rubbing than with natural fibres. They are not skin friendly and are uncomfortable for wearing for a long time. Some people are allergic to them. They are non biodegradable in comparison to natural fibres.
In this way we see that synthetic fibres have their advantages and disadvantages.
