Money Instructor was one of the first websites I found that had some real lesson plans and ideas for teaching students about accounting.
While some of the lessons are pretty advanced, you would definitely get some use out of the first few lessons for your middle school students: Basic Accounting and Bookkeeping Lessons
2. Accounting Lessons and Resources from Teachers Pay Teachers
Another great website for finding lesson plans, activities, and worksheets is Teachers Pay Teachers.
It's a community where real teachers share, sell, and buy resources from each other. I did a little digging and found that there are some resources to teach basic accounting to middle school students: Middle School Accounting Teaching Resources from Teachers Pay Teachers
High School Accounting Activities and Lessons

There are two kinds of high school teachers looking for accounting lessons and activities: an Introduction to Business teacher and an Accounting teacher.
Because someone who teaches a full-year course will need some pretty in-depth and robust information, the accounting activities and lessons I'll share here will be more useful to the first type of course.
3. Money Instructor (Yes them, again!)
Even for a high school business course, the lessons provided by Money Instructor are a great starting point.

4. Tonya Skinner's Business Education Lessons
Tonya Skinner is a high school business education teacher that also dedicates her time to sharing lesson and activity ideas with other teachers.

5. High School Accounting Lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers
Teachers Pay Teachers also has some resources more geared for high school business courses.

Business Ed Accounting Activities and Lessons

In working with thousands of business education teachers across the United States, we know that scraping together different resources and ideas to create a curriculum isn't fun... and it takes a lot of time.
Because we have seen so many teachers struggle to find and deliver appropriate lessons, we've included an Accounting module in Business&ITCenter21.
In the Accounting module students are introduced to business accounting basics.
They will learn the definition and purpose of accounting; transactions, accounts, debits and credits, and the accounting equation; the double-entry method; the accounting cycle; and financial analysis.
Students get to practice entering transactions in simulated exercises.
Specifically, they'll do all of that in these units:
6. Accounting Overview
This unit provides students with an overview of accounting.
They will learn what accounting is, how it is used to support a business, and who uses accounting information.
7. Accounting Cycle
This unit introduces students to the seven-step accounting cycle: source documents, journal entries, ledger or T-accounts, trial balances, adjusted trial balances, financial statements, and closing entries.
Students will practice all of the skills presented in each lesson.
8. Financial Analysis
Students learn how the financial information covered in previous accounting units is used to perform a financial analysis of a business.
They learn that a financial analysis supports owners, managers, and stakeholders in making decisions about the business.
Students have the opportunity to evaluate financial analysis information and make business decisions based on that information.
9. Accounting Project
As if all of that isn't enough, a project sure seems like the icing on the accounting cake.
So we created one for you and your students. It is a hands-on project where students use Microsoft Excel to perform several steps in the accounting cycle.
This project reinforces concepts covered in the first three units and is the perfect way to finish up the module.
More specifically, in the Accounting Project, students take on the role of a part-time accountant for a small pet shop called Sparky's.
The students' job is to help Sparky's get their accounting books back in order.
The students download an Excel workbook that is used to perform tasks such as journal entries, a trial balance, completing financial statements, and closing entries.
