Asha sees a pitcher plant for the very first time. She gets to know that the plant is green in color but she has also read in an interesting book that they insectivorous plants. She finds it confusing that even though the plant in green in appearance why does it feed on insects if it can do the process of photosynthesis?

Explanation:

It actually does not do photosynthesis. It feeds on the insects' glucose and nitrogen. That is why it remains green, even though it cannot do photosynthesis

Answer:

The Pitcher plant feeds on insects to fulfill its nutritional requirements, It is not able to get enough nutritions ( nitrogen )  to fulfill its requirement as the soil it grows in lacks in certain nutritions ( nitrogen ), So it feeds on insects to get all the nutritions required for the plant to grow. That's why it is an insectivorous plant.
