The state Maharashtra was founded on May 1, 1960. This day is also called Maharashtra Day. In the beginning, the state had 26 districts. Later on, 10 districts were created within the state.

 These 36 districts are classified into six administrative divisions. These divisions are Amravati Division, Aurangabad Division, Konkan Division, Nagpur Division, Nashik Division and Pune Division.
Maharashtra state is spread across a massive 307,713 km² area.
