At the fair I bought 6 pineapples and two jack fruits for Rs 15.

If I could have brought 4 more pineapples FOR Rs. 14 than jack fruits for Rs 9, what would be the price of each?

Answer:

Each pineapple cost RS.1.75 and each jack fruit cost Rs. 2.25

Step-by-step explanation:

p = pineapples, j = jack fruits.

Below equation is formed as per data given.

6p + 2j = 15;

j = (15 - 6p) / 2 ---- [1]

Four more pineapples (p)bgt for Rs. 14 than jack fruits(j) for Rs. 9.

14/p - 9/j = 4 ------ [2]

Substitute [1] in [2]; you'll get a quadratic which will simplify to:

4 p^{2}- 27p + 35 = 0;

4 p^{2}- 20p - 7p + 35 = 0

4p(p - 5) - 7(p - 5) = 0

(p - 5)(4p - 7) = 0

P=1 ¾.

Substitute p value in 1.

j = (15 - 6p) / 2

j = (15 - 10.5)/2

j = 2 1/4
