The following sentence "Axon carries impulses away from the cell body " is TRUE.

Axon is a part of a nerve cell.

Let us know about a NERVE CELL.

Nerve cell or Neurons is the structural and functional unit of our nervous system.

It consists of a cell body known as cyton containing a nucleus and cytoplasm. It has several branches structures called dendrites. It has a long nerve fibre called axon which is covered by a protective covering called as myelin sheath.

The junction between 2 neurones is called synapse.

The message passed through the nerve cell in the form of chemical and electrical signals are called nerve impulses.

The dendrites receive the information and starts a chemical reaction which produces electrical impulses which passes through the axon.

Neurotransmitters are the biochemical substances which are found at the synaptic junctions and helps in transmitting nerve impulses to the dendrites of one nerve cell to the other.

Refer the photo for the figure of a neuron.

Thanks!!!

‘Axon carries impulses away from the cell body’ is a TRUE statement.

Explanation:

  • The neurons are the cells of the neural system that carries signals from to the brain and away from the brain.
  • They have a cell body called cyton that contains a cytoplasm and nucleus the neuron consists of the axons and the Dendron.
  • The axons carry the signals ‘away from the cell body’, whereas the Dendron carries the signals ‘towards the cell body’.
