The correct question is:  ...(i) On Saturday, he incurred a loss of 68. If he sold 16 kg of...

The Main Answer is: (i) He sold 12 kg of apples.

                                    (ii) He sold 10 kg of bananas

                                    (iii) He sold 8 kg of apples

Given: selling 1kg of apples = profit of 5

           selling 1kg of bananas = loss of 8

(i) Saturday - total loss = -68; 16kg bananas sold

(ii) Sunday - total profit = 45; 25 kg of apples sold

(iii) Monday - No profit or loss; 5 kg of bananas sold

To Find: (i) Amount of apples sold

              (ii) amount of bananas sold

              (iii) amount of apples sold

Solution:

Profit from selling 1kg of apples = 5

Profit from selling 'x' kg of apples = 5x

Loss from selling 1 kg bananas = -8

Loss from selling 'y' kg of bananas = -8y

(i)

Total loss = -68

Amount of bananas sold = 16 kg

loss from bananas = -16(8) = -128

Let amount of apples sold = x kg

Profit from apples = 5x

According to the question-

5x - 128 = -68

5x = 60 ⇒ x = 12 kg

                                  ∴ Amount of Apples sold = 12 kg

(ii)

Total profit = 45

Amount of apples sold = 25 kg

Profit from apples = 25(5) = 125

Loss from selling 'y' kg of bananas = -8y

According to the question-

125 - 8y = 45

8y = 80 ⇒ y = 10 kg

                                   ∴ Amount of Bananas sold = 10 kg

(iii)

Total profit/loss = 0

Amount of bananas sold = 5 kg

Loss from selling bananas = -8(5) = -40

Profit from selling 'z' kg of apples = 5z

According to the question-

5z - 40 = 0

5z = 40 ⇒ z = 8 kg

                                ∴ Amount of Apples sold = 8 kg

∴ The final answers are: (i) He sold 12 kg of apples.

                                          (ii) He sold 10 kg of bananas

                                          (iii) He sold 8 kg of apples
