Crossing the Bar is a short eloquent poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson that appears, at his request, as the final poem in all collections of his work. This itself along with the underlying themes of symbolism give a feel that Tennyson was in a way saying goodbye. The bar represents the boundary between life and death and this is a poem about someone crossing that bar into the next phase of existence. Tennyson writes, ” I hope to see my Pilot face to face when i have crossed the bar”
