Answer:

Okay here is your answer:-

2K+2H₂O --> 2KOH+H₂

Explanation:

Know I will be explaining How I Got This Answer...

The equation given to balance is:

K+H₂O --> KOH+H₂

So...First we need to check the valency of potassium and hydroxide:-

K+H₂O --> KOH+H₂

K valency is = 1

OH valency is= 1

so KOH that is potassium hydroxide remains the same....

Now that we have done the first step, we will move on to the second step that is balancing the equation....THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART...

K+H₂O --> KOH+H₂

Here, in the right hand side has 2 hydrogen while the other side hydrogen is imbalanced so we put a 2 in front of KOH which makes the equation:-

K+H₂O --> 2KOH+H₂

So, now all the hydrogen atoms are all balanced but while placing a 2 in front of KOH for balancing the equation potassium and oxygen also got effected by the 2. Because while placing a 2 in front of KOH each of them gets 2-2 each like potassium is 2, oxygen is 2 and hydrogen is also 2. In order to balance the equation for potassium as the right hand side is imbalanced we have to put a 2 in front of potassium.

2K+H₂O --> 2KOH+H₂

Not only potassium got effected while balancing the hydrogen oxygen also got effected so we have to put a 2 in front of water:-

2K+2H₂O --> 2KOH+H₂

So, therefore we get our final answer as 2K+2H₂O --> 2KOH+H₂
