Its not about the location of west Bengal in india . Back at the time of independence, the Bengal province was divided into two parts along the religious lines. It's western part remained in India and called West Bengal, while it's eastern part joined Pakistan as East Bengal ( Later called east pakistan ) giving rise to present Bangladesh.

when earlier bengal was huge it was in east as a state and had 2 parts east and west.....The Britishers took the east part and only the west part is now remaining.Though Bengal is now in east it is still known as the "West Bengal "
