During the time of the 14th (and last) Kulkar(patriarch) King Nabhi, India was first given the name as Nabhi-desha or Nabhi-varsha(which means the land of King Nabhi).
After King Nabhi, when his grandson, King Bharat(son of the 1st Tirthankar Rishabhanath) officially became the 1st Chakravartin King of the present descending time cycle, this country was officially named as Bhaarat-varsha(the land of Bharata).
The name ‘Bhaarat-varsha or Bhaarat’ became widely known and became the official name of this great country.
