India is the only country in South Asia which has been sustaining her democratic principles since independence without any major deadlock which would have completely broken the basic constitutional fabric of the country barring the dark era of emergency; which is still justified by a few political analysts as a last resort to maintain law and order at that time. When we raise question like “Is democracy in danger in India?”, it is mainly in the context of contemporary political scenario which has a greater influence in functioning of democracy. Indian Constitution provides every citizen of India some fundamental rights and mentions some fundamental duties which we are obliged to abide by. In the last few years since the NDA govt. came to power in 2014, undoubtedly we have witnessed the deterioration in the level of discourse in top universities, a sense of insecurity among some Muslims due to staunch Pro-Hindutva image of BJP, emergence of political & religious bigotry, debate around India being intolerant & freedom of expression and practice of religion with non-intervention being curtailed, nine incidents of mob lynching particularly by cow vigilantes so far; recently in Alwar where a Muslim was beaten up to death by gau rakshaks. There have been many debates around these issues wherein different individuals, groups, and political parties have put their stand and concerns. These incidents are really deplorable and those who threaten country’s integrity and secularism; and take law and order in their hands must be brought to books and treated in the ambit of constitutional provisions, but there shouldn’t be two opinions in the matter of our country’s unity, integrity and preservation of its democratic principles like secularism, liberty, equality, justice and fraternity. Still many debates go around whether is this the real picture or its projection is politically motivated and hyped by some people to create a kind of fear among the citizens in order to get the political gains. But one thing we must acknowledge that generalization of such incidents for a large country like India which is globally known for peaceful coexistence of different sects, religions, languages, cultures and ideologies is not justifiable. If you get a wound in your body; you try to heal it by consulting to doctor and taking some medicines and putting ointment, you just don’t make a pre-conceived notion that your body is in a dangerous state. Because saying something in dangerous state simply means that it’s very much prone to collapse. The idea of democracy could be on tenterhooks; that we all need to short out collectively. But having said that the roots of democracy in India are very strong and mature enough to withstand such challenges .

SO I THINK ITS A BIGGEST JOKE FOR WHICH...
