Double Act by Jacqueline Wilson (book review)
Ruby and Garnet were 10-year old identical twins. Ruby was the older twin. She was the really energetic twin and was very fidgety. Garnet was the younger twin though she was more mature than Ruby. They both loved reading. Dad used to buy so many books there was hardly any space for walking in the house. They lived with their dad and grandma. Three years ago, when they were seven, their mom had gotten really sick and had passed away. One Sunday, Dad came home with a woman named Rose. She was a very sweet lady but neither the twins nor even gran liked her. She started coming on every Sunday and sometimes on weekdays. She started changing the way Dad dressed and called him Rick or Ricky. This made gran and the twins hate her even more because she made him look like a fool and his name was Richard. One day gran was moved to sheltered housing. Dad, Rose, Garnet, and Ruby were moving out of their house too. Dad had lost his job. He said that he hated that job anyway. He said that they would get a little shop in the country and he would sell his books there. Garnet and Ruby hated that idea. They didn’t want to leave gran or their friends or their school. He came back after the weekend and said that the shop he bought was right out in the country, besides a river, with hills around. On the last day there, they said goodbye to everyone in the school. The worst part for them was leaving gran. After they had moved into their new house, Ruby and Garnet had started arguing and disagreeing with each other much more then they used to. When they had started going to school there, Garnet had made a new friend, Judy. Ruby got mad at Garnet for being friends with her because she didn’t like her. When there was a chance for Ruby and Garnet to act in a show, Garnet had messed up during the auditions and Ruby wasn’t very happy about that. One day, they found a book about a boarding school for girls called ‘Marnock Heights.’ When they had gotten the results, only Garnet had passed the audition test and not Ruby. Ruby was so furious that she completely stopped talking to Garnet. She even changed her hair and clothes to look different from her. Garnet felt awful and told Ruby that she wouldn’t go to the school and suggested that maybe they had gotten them both mixed up. Ruby said that she didn’t care if she went or not even though she really wanted to go there. When it was Garnet’s last day at home, Ruby started feeling awful for the way she had treated her. She told Garnet that she was sorry and that she had every right to go to the boarding school and not feel guilty for her not getting into the school.
Book Review
The Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
Holmes is the only consulting detective of the world. He is not interested in prestige and money but want to practice flex his intellectual muscles. Here, people get to see series of problems, criminal world of London and great mind of works.
Doyle does not go into details of solution of the faced problem. As an adventure and mystery lover, I really loved this book so much.
