GIVEN:

  • Two masses m1 & m2 are connected by a light string passing over a pulley
  • Acceleration of the system g/6
  • m1 > m2

TO FIND:

  • m1 : m2

SOLUTION:

We know that

→ m1g - T = m1a

Substituting a = g/6. ( °.° Given )

→ m1g - m1(g/6) = T

→ 5m1g/6 = T

Assuming as eq 1

________________________

→ T - m2g = m2a

→ T - m2g = m2(g/6)

→ T = 7m2g/6

Assuming as eq 2

Now, Eq 2 ÷ 1

♦ T/T = [7m2g/6]/[5m1g/6]

♦ 1 = 7m1/5m2

♦ m2/m1 = 5/7

♦ m1 : m2 = 7 : 5. ( Option c )

Hence, option c is your answer.
