In bengal when it was not divided there was a big starvation in Bengal
All the Crops are dry. But the British government did not denied food and money tax.
Because of shortage of food the farmers leave the land and gone to other states

due to high taxes, worse policies moto to have more earning , bad governing ,etc ultimately they had nothing to do with administrating india but to have more profit , the britishers formed merchant govt.
They were implementing policies leads to degradation to society
and no concern with preventative measures about famines
