bromine and air take about 15 minutes to diffuse completely but bromine diffuses into a vaccuum very rapidly . why is this so ?

Answer:

When bromine diffuses in air, the bromine particles bump into the already present air particles due to which diffusion is slow .But in vacuum there are no air molecules thus the space is very vast . That is why Bromine take 15 minutes to diffuse in air completely but bromine diffuse into a vacuum very rapidly.

Diffusion is the random movement of particles.In the diffusion process of bromine and air,the bromine particles continuously collide with the particles of air.This slows down the diffusion rate.But in vacuum there are no particles to collide.Hence bromine diffuses faster in vacuum than in air.
