Difference between mass and weight :

Mass : It is the amount of matter present in an object .

• Its SI unit is kilogram denoted by kg.

• It is a fundamental quantity i.e. it does not depend on some other quantity .

• It remains unchanged and does not vary from place to place , mediums , etc.

Weight : It is the gravitational force with which a body is attracted towards earth .

• It is measured as a product of mass and acceleration due to gravity .

• Since it is a force , its SI unit is Newton denoted by N .

• It is a dependent quantity and depends upon acceleration due to gravity .

• It is variable and changes from place to place due to change in acceleration due to gravity , g and medium to medium , etc.
