CaCl2 is used to clear ice from roads

CaCl2 is used to clear the snow at hill stations because it depresses the freezing point of ice. when CaCl2 is added there is lowering of the freezing point of the salt water to -29 degree Celsius. hence it doesn't melts the ice but loweres the freezing point
