Calcium and magnesium do not react with cold water, I they are put in cold water then,the bubbles of hydrogen gas sticks to its surface and they float I've it.

Calcium reacts with water to produce its hydroxide , Ca(OH)2

with hydrogen gas. Calcium starts floating because the bubbles of hydrogen gas formed stick to the surface of metal.
