Calcium hydroxide cannot be used to remove permanent hardness of water.why?

Because we need something reactive than ca and mg to displace them....like Na we can use NaOH...is it ok any doubt

Hello there,
The answer to the above question is following;
The permanent hardness of water is due to the highly reactive chlorides, nitrates and sulphates of calcium and magnesium due to which precipitating is unable to remove their hardness.
Therefore more reactive elements are required for this purpose and calcium hydroxide wont be able to do it.
