Concept:

We need to apply the kinematic equation of motion to calculate the acceleration and distance of the body. The applied kinematic equations are- v = u + at and s = vt - 1/2at².

Given:

Initial velocity of body, u = 5m/s

Time = 6 seconds

Final velocity, v = 0m/s

Find:

We need to determine:

Acceleration of the body, a

Distance of the body, s

Solution:

From 1st Kinematic equation of motion, we know,

v = u + at where v is the final velocity, u acts as the initial velocity, a is the acceleration and t is time in seconds.

We have, v as 0m/s, u as 5m/s and t as 6sec therefore, 1st kinematic equation of motion, v = u + at becomes-

0 = 5 + a(6)

a = -5/6 m/s² is the acceleration of the body.

To calculate distance we need to apply another kinematic equation i.e 2nd kinematic equation of motion, s = ut + 1/2at² however it will change a little as s = vt - 1/2at² where s is the distance

Therefore, s = 0(6) - 1/2 (-5/6)(6)²

s = 0 + 5/12 × 36

s = 15m

Thus, the acceleration and the distance of the body are -5/6 m/s² and 15m, respectively.
