area of square = side × side

= 40m×40m

= 1600m^2

length of horizontal path =40m

breadth of horizontal path = 3m

area of horizontal path = l×b

= 40m × 3m

= 120m²

length of vertical path = 40m

breadth of vertical path = 2m

area of vertical path = l×b

= 40m×2m

= 80m²

space between horizontal and vertical part are common

Length= 3m

Breadth= 2m

area = l×b

= 3m×2m

= 6m²

total area covered as path = area of horizontal path + area of vertical path - space between horizontal and vertical path .

= 120m² + 80m² - 6m²

= 200m² - 6m²

= 194 m²

area of shaded region = area of square - area of path

= 1600m² - 194m²

= 1406m²
