Calculate the mass of sulphur in 30g of FeS2

Atomic mass of Sulphur (S) = 32.
Molecular or atomic mass of Iron = 56

Molecular mass of Iron pyrites (FeS₂) = 56 + (2x32)
= 56 + 64
=120g

Now, use simple unitary method.

Mass of sulphur in 120g FeS₂ = 64g
Mass of sulphur in 1g FeS₂ = 64/120g

Hence, mass of sulphur in 30g of FeS₂:
[tex] \frac{64\times30}{120} \\= \frac{1920}{120} \\= 16[/tex]

hence, 16g sulphur is present in 30g of Iron pyrites.
