Answer:

if all are connected in series, then

equivalent resistance R = 10ohm

then current I = V/R= 1.2A

Given,

R2 = R3 = R4 = 2Ω

R1 = 4Ω

V = 12V

R(ef) = ?

I guess the question is R2,R3 and R4 connected in series and R1 is connected in parallel..?

R(series) = R2 + R3 + R4

              =  2Ω + 2Ω+ 2Ω

              = 6Ω

Now, R(series) and R1 are in parallel.

⇒  1            1          1

  ------  =  ------  + ------

   R(p)         6         4

    1             4 +  6

  ------    =  -----------

   R(p)             24

∴R(p) = 24 / 10

Hence, the total resistance in the circuit is 24/10Ω

Is the potential difference given for finding the current?

  V = IR

⇒ I = V/R

      = 12 × 10

        ------------

              24

 ∴  I  = 5A
