Desktop speakers have an amplifier built in, which will keep this from working. In fact, plugging desktop speakers into your micjack MIGHT blow up your sound card. It probably wont hurt it, but it also wont work as a microphone. Though if you have regular every day headphones, 99% of the time this will work.
