In a parallelogram, opposite sides are equal.

therefore,

AD = BC

AB = DC

5x = 20

$x = \frac{20}{5}$

x = 4.

4y - 1 = 27

4y = 27+1

4y = 28

$y = \frac{28}{4}$

y = 7

Question 2 :

The diagonals bisect each other,

SO = OT (let us take the point the diagonals bisect as O)

VO = OT

20 = y-5

20+5 = y

25 = y

14 = x - y

substituting y for 25 from the above equation.

14 = x - 25

14+25 = x

39 = x
