Can planets stop spinning?

If planets stop spinning then the gravitional force of sun will attract itself to it. On the other hand if at all they do so then one part of the planet will have only sunlight and the other part will have no sunlight for the entire year so life won't exixt.

saipritampattnaik: No the planet can't stop spinning around sun because due sun's gravity they all had a centripetal force acting on they and which provides them orbital velocity. We can only nstop them if their path is some how distrubed which not possible.

JustCuriousByNature: you need to restudy it you are half correct. ya centripetel force exists but sun doesn't provide the orbital velocity
