Electrodes are essential for the electrolysis.
Graphite which is the Allotropic form of carbon is used in the electrolysis for the following reasons:
1.Graphite is a good conductor of electricity.
2. Graphite has high  resistant to corrosion.
3. Graphite is cheaper .

Electrode are used to conduct electricity in the solution and Carbon is used in the form of graphite which is exceptionally a non metal which conducts electricity. ... Basically, anything where the electrons can flow through the structure, that structure can conduct electricity and so used as electrode. It is also cheaper and has higher resistant to corrosion.
