Let there be n rows and m columns. ie., m students in each row.
So there are m n number of students in total. The students are rearranged in more number of rows or less number of rows... so:
arrangement 1:
(m + 1) * (n -2 ) = m n
m n - 2 m + n - 2 = m n => n - 2 m = 2 --- (1)
arrangement 2:
Also, (m - 1) ( n + 3) = m n
m n + 3 m - n - 3 = mn => 3 m - n = 3 --- (2)
Solving (1) and (2) : m = 5 and n = 12
There are m * n = 60 students in total.
So there are m n number of students in total. The students are rearranged in more number of rows or less number of rows... so:
arrangement 1:
(m + 1) * (n -2 ) = m n
m n - 2 m + n - 2 = m n => n - 2 m = 2 --- (1)
arrangement 2:
Also, (m - 1) ( n + 3) = m n
m n + 3 m - n - 3 = mn => 3 m - n = 3 --- (2)
Solving (1) and (2) : m = 5 and n = 12
There are m * n = 60 students in total.
