CH4 i.e Methane , CH3 i.e methyl , CO2 And many compounds can be formed. These three examples are appropriate according to question.

Carbon can form many compounds bcoz of it's property of tetravalency i.e it have 4 valence electron

Due to above property the carbon cannot form ionic bond and will be only form covalent and due to this it can form long chains , this property is known as catenation.
