 \huge{ \underline{ \mathfrak{Active - Passive}}}

1. He kept me waiting.

I was kept waiting by him.

2. They let the prisoners go.

The prisoners were let free.

3. Don't look down upon the poor.

The poor shouldn't be looked down upon.

Additional Information :

⭐ In active voice the format is like :

Subject - Verb - Object.

When a sentence is turned to passive voice the formal will be like :

Object - Verb - Subject.

⭐ We observe that the place of the object and the subject is interchanged in the above format when a sentence is turned to passive voice.

Note : Verb should be changed to 3rd form.

Active Voice refers to a sentence in which the subject is performing the action.

Passive Voice refers to a sentence in which the subject undergoes the action. In other words, it is writing the sentence in reverse order.

Example: She is playing games. (Active)

Games are being played by her. (Passive)

NOTE: Sentences that convey habitual actions cannot be changed to passive mode.

1. He kept me waiting. (Active)

  • I was kept waiting by him. (Passive)

2. They let the prisoners go. (Active)

  • The prisoners were let free by them. (Passive)

3. Don't look down upon the poor. (Active)

  • The poor shouldn't be looked down upon. (Passive)
