Well we seem to be following the American model where packaging assumes great importance while marketing.  This has had both good and bad effects.

ON the economic effects, this has led to the emergence of an entire industry, has generated new jobs as has added to our GDP. Packaging has also been very important in the food processing industry, which has led to increased shelf life of products. On the other hand, unnecessary packaging has led to waste, it leads to excessive use of plastic and therefore is an environmental hazard.  

This is how you should build up your write up:

1 Talk of how the industry has evolved.
2 Look at the packaging industry. Give some numbers, such as maybe the revenues of some packaging companies such as Essel Propack, etc. 
3 Look at the impact of packaging on how the food processing has developed.
