Butterworth toast is a comic poem loved by children so much. Its written by Charles Causley who was an English poet from Cornwall.

In this poem, the Colonel is haunted by a ghost that wants to frightened him. He is delighted as he believes the Ghost is a person in fancy dress, its polite to it that the ghost disappears in disgust. At the end of the poem, Colonel was quite sorry and wished his new friend would come back to him.
