it takes part in the synthesis of ribosomes. ribosome's synthesis also takes place in cell cytoplasm.

Nucleolus takes part in the synthesis of ribosomes. They are also a site of r-RNA transcription and processing.
Assembling of both the units to form ribosome takes place in nucleolus.
