Character sketch of Gora:

The “Gora” was written by Rabindranath Tagore.

Gora is the central character in this story.

He was an orthodox Brahmin boy who was born to an Irish man and English woman. He was born at Anandamoyi and Krishna Dayal house, as Gora's mother died after his birth. He was adopted as son by Anandamoyi and Krishna Dayal.

He was bought up as a good, knowledgeable and disciplined Brahmin boy. He was fondly called as 'The snow mountain' by his college professors for his fair complexions.

He had great love for his parents even though they are adopted parents. He respected all the women. He was a strong follower of Hinduism and learned all the big and trivial things related to that religion. He was completely under the hold of his caste and in this book he always spoke about the advantages of the caste system.

He had great love for his motherland. He disliked people who followed the English and people who supported English reign in India. He boldly faced the English Magistrate for the unjustly things done to the poor Indian boys by the English officer. This bravery made Sucharita fall in love with him.
