Hi friend,
The story 'How I taught my grandmother to read' teaches us many valuable things. The story teaches us that if one has confidence in oneself, if one is determined, then their is no obstacle that can stop them to move on to the stairs of success.
It teaches that there is no age bar for success. Age doesn't matter if one take a decision to move ahead in his life.
It is well Said that faith can move mountains. Just faith in yourself and you can overcome the biggest obstacle in your life. Obstacles don't stop coming in our life but faith can atleast help us to overcome them.
In the Story 'How I taught my grandmother to read' the protagonist Kr{Grandmother} and Sudha Murthy{Granddaughter} are having a great age difference between them. But still the granddaughter taught her grandmother with great enthusiasm.
Charactersketch of Grandmother-
Grandmother was very determined, she made a firm decision to learn Kannada at such a big age. She didn't cared about her age and she was having confidence on herself that she will learn Kannada till Dusshera festival was there.
Grandmother was very hard working. She burnt midnight all and she was very particular with her lessons, she used to read, write, speak, repeat her lessons. She used to do homework more than what was needed.
Grandmother was a multitasker. She used to do her kitchen work as well as her studies. She didn't compromised with anything. She planned everything accordingly, despite of doing so much work everyday in kitchen, she was having enough energy to Study.
Grandmother was very respectful. On the day of Dusshera festival she completed her education, and learnt Kannada. She gave the credit to her granddaughter for teaching her and making her an independent women at such an age. She gave her granddaughter a beautiful frock and also touched her feet to show her gratitude towards her granddaughter.
Grandmother was very intelligent, as she used to repeat the last episode of Kashi Yatra to her friends after Sudha read a lesson to her.
She was kind too :)
Grandmother was overall a great person.
We should learn something from her.
We learn that -
<>Faith can move mountains.
<>There is no age bar for learning.
<>Just determination, confidence is needed to step on to the stairs of success.
Hope it helps....!!!
