We get to know very little about the character of Oliver in the novel 'The Invisible Man. While relating his story to Dr Kemp, Griffin mentions his professor, Oliver, under whom he was carrying out his research. But Oliver was one of the greatest disadvantages for an ambitious student like Griffin because he was a scientific bounder, a journalist by instinct and a thief of ideas. Naturally Griffin did not want to share the credit of his research on invisibility with Oliver and so he had keep it a secret to Oliver.
