Large intestine is a part alimentary canol and it help in absorption of water from undigested food sending by the small intestine.

The characteristics of the "Large Intestine" are as follows :-

  • The large intestine is much shorter than the small intestine but, it is comparatively wider than the small intestine.

  • The large intestine of a human being is about 5 feet in length and is about 2.5 inches in width.

  • The large intestine has three parts, namely- "Caecum", "Colon" and "Rectum".

  • The caecum is very large and spacious in herbivores such as Rabbits, Horses and Donkeys.

  • The large intestine serves to store unabsorbed food remainings for a short period of time.

  • The large intestine does not secrete any enzymes.

  • The large intestine absorbs nutrients and water from the food that comes from the small intestine.
