the elderly do play an important part in society. They tell us stories of their lives and keep verbal culture of a nation alive. If we are lucky enough to have the elder generation around in our families or in the neighbourhood, we should listen to them telling stories of their personal lives or of the past historical events from a personal perspective. But it is the older generation's task to pass on not only personal accounts of what had happened earlier, but also to make the younger generation acquainted with a nation's verbal culture, folktales, and not less importantly, anecdotes from the "family archive", stories for us to learn from in an informal way.
