Some general characteristics of s-block element

1. They are soft metals with low melting pt. and boiling pt.

2. They have low ionization enthalpy.

3.Have tendency to form +1 or +2 ions.

4. They are very reactive metals and for which the metallic character and reactivity increases down the group.

5. Most of the compounds (except of Be) are ionic in nature.

6. Most of the metals (except Be and Mg) show characteristic color with flame.

7. They are strong reducing agents are strong reducing agents.

8. All are good conductors of heat and electricity.

•An element is a pure substance which consists of only one type of particles.

These particles can be atoms or molecules.

•For example Carbon is made up of only carbon atoms, gold is made up of only gold atoms, Hydrogen gas consists of Hydrogen molecules (formed from two atoms of Hydrogen) etc.

•There are various element each of which have few roles, example-

Carbon-all living things have carbon. They help keep us alive.

Hydrogen-it is in the sun so that it helps warm the Earth.
