The first main character that we came across in the story is Bepin Babu. Bepin Choudhury is an old man who had no children. He lived a lonely life after his wife’s demise. He was a good employee in a reputed firm at a responsible post. But he had a few friends. He had a keen interest in reading books. He never wasted his time in idle chatting. We also see that Bepin Choudhury was an innocent man. He easily got trapped into the prank played by his friend Chunilal. So much so that he eventually believed that he had indeed lost his memory and might land in an asylum
