Benzonitrile is C6H5(CN)…….so this on hydrolysis will give carboxylic acid.
C6H5(CN) on hydrolysis gives C6H5(COOH)
….now with the help of NaOH and CaO….we can cause decarboxylation….which is removal of CO2……
C6H5(cooH) with NaOH and CaO gives BENZENE (C6H6)
Benzene when reacts with C6H5COcl….which is an acid chloride….wil give C6H5-CO-C6H5. ..which is benzophenone.
