The average speed of Chitra is  12 Km/hr.

The formula for average speed is,

average speed = total distance / total time

Explanation:

Given:

  • Chitra goes to school from cycle at a speed of 15 km/hr.
  • She returns from home at a speed of 10 km/hr.

Let 'x' be the total distance up to her school.

Let t_{1}  be the time taken by Chitra to go,

Hence,

t_{1} = x/15

Time taken by chitra to come from school,

t_{2} = x/15

average speed =\frac{ x+x}{\frac{x}{15} +\frac{x}{10} }

=\frac{2x}{\frac{2x+3x}{30} }

=12 km/hr

Hence the average speed by which Chitra covered the total distance is 12km/hr.
